Merewood was built in 1812 for the son of the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. The house was built with stone quarried in the hotel grounds and retains many original features. These include the beautifully panelled hall and reception with its glorious stained glass and magnificent fireplace and the silk-lined drawing room.
